“We love your vibe” bukan payment method

Ada satu notification yang boleh buat creator kecil-kecil terus duduk tegak.

Brand DM.

Pukul 3 petang, tengah kau blur lepas lunch, tiba-tiba masuk message: “Hi babe, we love your content and would love to collaborate.”

Bestie, jantung memang naik sikit. Sebab it feels official. Macam tiba-tiba kau bukan girl yang post GRWM dekat bilik, kau now business woman with soft lighting.

Cute.

Tapi sebelum kau reply “omg yes!!!” dengan 7 emoji, breathe dulu.

Sebab kadang “collab” tu maksud dia paid partnership.

Kadang maksud dia kerja free, cuma packaging dia pastel.

Barang free still bukan gaji

Kita kena stop pretending yang product gifted automatically equals fair exchange.

Kalau brand bagi satu lip tint RM29 and minta satu TikTok, tiga story, usage rights, raw footage, posting within 48 hours, plus “please make it natural” — sis, itu bukan collab.

Itu part-time job pakai ribbon.

Yes, free product can be fun. Kalau kau memang suka brand tu, memang nak try, and deliverables dia chill, okay lah. Ambil sebagai content idea.

Tapi jangan confuse excited dapat PR dengan being paid for your taste, time, editing, face, credibility, and audience.

Satu video 30 seconds pun ada kerja belakang dia. Lighting. Retake sebab eyeliner sebelah nampak pelik. Caption. Posting timing. Reply comment. Anxiety bila views slow.

Exposure tak bayar semua tu.

Exposure pun tak boleh top up Touch ’n Go.

Red flag: deliverables banyak, budget senyap

Kalau brand DM panjang gila pasal what they need, tapi satu kali pun tak mention budget, jangan rasa malu nak tanya.

“Hi! Thank you for reaching out. Can I know the deliverables and budget for this campaign?”

Simple. Professional. Tak rude.

Kalau dia reply, “Oh this is gifted only, but great exposure!” then kau decide ikut tenaga sendiri.

Gifted only boleh jadi yes kalau product memang kau akan guna, brand tak minta terlalu banyak, and kau boleh cakap honest. Gifted only jadi no kalau dia demand macam client tapi bayar macam secret admirer.

Creator girls selalu rasa kena grateful. Macam kalau kita tanya rate, nanti brand lari.

But bestie, brand yang lari sebab kau tanya budget memang bukan brand yang nak respect kau pun.

Audience boleh bau review paksa

Ini benda brands kadang lupa.

Girls boleh detect bila content tu ikhlas versus bila creator tengah membaca brief dalam mode hostage.

Ayat macam “this product changed my life” untuk lip balm yang baru sampai semalam? Please. Kita semua ada otak and FYP trauma.

Sponsored content boleh je best. Actually, bila done right, lagi useful. Creator boleh explain texture, shade, siapa sesuai, siapa tak payah beli, real-life test dekat cuaca Malaysia.

Yang buat orang side-eye ialah bila semua benda “must-have”, semua benda “obsessed”, semua benda “10/10” macam dunia ni tak ada mediocre serum.

Kalau kau creator, protect trust tu.

Trust lagi mahal daripada PR box.

Collab bagus rasa macam partnership, bukan favour

A good collab tak buat kau rasa kecil.

Dia clear. Apa deliverables, timeline, payment, usage, posting guideline, disclosure. Dia bagi ruang untuk honest opinion. Dia respect audience kau. Dia tak buat kau kejar-kejar payment macam hutang kelas tambahan.

And yes, small creator pun layak minta clarity.

Follower kau maybe 2k, 5k, 12k — still audience real. Still ada orang trust taste kau. Still ada effort belakang satu video.

Jangan letak harga diri ikut follower count semata.

So bila collab DM masuk, jangan panic jadi grateful intern

Screenshot. Compare deliverables. Tanya budget. Tanya usage rights. Tanya deadline.

Kalau gifted, decide: worth it ke not for me?

Kalau paid, confirm terms before buat kerja.

Kalau dia guilt-trip kau dengan “but other creators are okay with gifted”, jawab dalam hati je: good for them, not my invoice.

Being excited is fine. Kita suka pretty boxes. Kita suka rasa noticed.

But noticed tak sama dengan compensated.

So yes, reply DM tu.

Be sweet. Be clear. Be a little business-minded.

Sebab exposure memang nampak cantik dalam email.

Tapi bulan hujung, landlord tak accept “we love your vibe” as rent.
