5PM balik on time: self-respect ke tak team player?

Team SisPilih2026-06-05

Balik on time pukul 5PM bukan automatically malas. Kadang itu boundary paling basic bila kerja dah siap and badan dah mintak pulang.

5PM balik on time: self-respect ke tak team player?

Pukul 5PM, laptop dah tutup. Tapi guilt baru nak buka tab.

Bestie, this one very specific.

Kerja dah siap. Email urgent tak ada. Boss pun tengah buat-buat busy dekat pantry. Tapi bila kau bangun nak balik on time, tiba-tiba rasa macam semua orang tengok.

Macam kau baru announce, “Hi team, I personally hate productivity.”

Padahal kau cuma nak balik.

5PM balik on time should be normal.

But somehow dekat office, internship, even group assignment culture, leaving on time can feel like criminal activity with tote bag.

Kenapa kita rasa bersalah bila balik on time?

Because banyak place still worship busy face.

Not actual work. Busy face.

Orang yang stay lambat nampak committed. Orang yang reply after hours nampak dedicated. Orang yang makan dinner depan laptop nampak “reliable”.

Then girlies yang buat kerja properly, siap within hours, pack bag and go home pula kena label macam tak cukup team spirit.

Hello?

Efficiency bukan red flag.

Kalau kau boleh habiskan kerja without dragging it sampai malam, that is not laziness. That is skill.

Problem dia, kita dah biasa confuse exhaustion with ambition.

Tapi jangan guna boundary sebagai excuse jadi useless.

SisPilih bukan nak romanticise perangai cincai.

Kalau kerja kau memang belum siap, deadline esok pagi, team tengah struggle, and kau cabut sebab “self-care”, hmm bestie.

That one not boundary. That one leaving people to clean your mess.

Self-respect still needs accountability.

Balik on time is cute when kau dah deliver. Bila kau communicate. Bila kau tak ghost kerja. Bila kau bukan jenis hilang pukul 4:59 lepas bagi orang lain emotional damage.

Boundary without responsibility is just main character syndrome pakai tote bag.

The real flex is clear work, not performative overtime.

There is a difference between staying late because something genuinely needs finishing and staying late sebab takut nampak less hardworking.

One is teamwork.

The other is office theatre.

And office theatre penat gila. Kau just sit there, pretending to type, while internally planning dinner.

Sometimes the grown thing is saying:

“Work for today is done. I’ll continue tomorrow morning.”

Not dramatic. Not rude. Just clear.

Kalau ada urgent thing, mention. Kalau no urgent thing, balik.

Your evening is not automatically company property just because your laptop charger still plugged in.

For interns and first-job girls, I get it. Scary.

When kau new, kau memang takut kena judge.

Takut nampak malas. Takut people think kau not serious. Takut senior side-eye because suffering is her personality.

So start with clean habits.

Before 5PM, ask if anything else needed. Update what you finished. Keep your work visible. Then pack without looking like kau tengah escape prison.

Simple line works:

“I’ve wrapped up A and B for today. I’ll pick up C tomorrow morning unless anything urgent.”

That sentence has more maturity than sitting extra 47 minutes refreshing email.

Balik on time is not giving up. It’s choosing life outside kerja.

You are allowed to have a body.

You are allowed to be hungry. Tired. Overstimulated. Done for the day.

You are allowed to want Maggi kari, shower, skincare, gossip with bestie, or absolutely nothing.

Especially for girls, we already carry so much invisible labour. Looking presentable. Being nice. Smiling through weird comments. Managing tone. Managing safety on the way home.

So if your actual work is done, please don’t donate extra guilt for free.

5PM balik on time is not automatically tak team player.

Sometimes it is just a girl refusing to turn burnout into personality.

And honestly?

That is very team player to your future self.
